On Saturday last, there was a combat accident during a big Wars of the Roses
bash in Bedfordshire & the media has picked up on it. I've now spoken to
Dave Smith, the organiser of the Bedfordshire Medieval Fayre about the
accident. The weapon involved was a sword, not a spear as reported in some
quarters. Dave did not witness the accident himself, so was unable to
speculate on the incident. The bare facts are these.

Kieran Robb, the injured man, is a 30 year old Scot and an experienced, well
equipped re-enactor who was taking part in a Wars of the Roses re-enactment.
I understand that he was struck just below the brow ridge with a combat
blunt sword with sufficient force to require hospital treatment. His
condition was described this morning as "stable".

Dave Smith assured me that all proper Risk Assessments and Method Statements
were in place. As he so rightly says, no-one can legislate for the rare
freak accident.

Regia expresses its sympathy both for the injured man and also for the man
that was on the other end of the sword! Many of us will know how awful he
must feel at this time.
