well in fact there are a couple interesting helms (both much earlier =
than the Viking Age) that could be misconstrued as "horned helms"

see

http://www.missouri.edu/~winsloww/temp/helms/water.jpg
and
http://www.missouri.edu/~winsloww/temp/helms/Visko.jpg

the First helm is the Waterloo Helm=20
It dates to between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD.
It was plucked from the River Thames, from beneath Waterloo bridge. It =
is in the British Museum, it is made of bronze inlaid with enamel and =
may have been intended to adorn a statue, as it is too small to be worn =
by an adult.

the second helm is the Visko helm.
i don't know much about it yet but here is some info from =
http://www.millennia.demon.co.uk/ravens/dancing.htm=20
"It is to the Bronze Age that two magnificent helmets found at Vikso on =
Zealand are attributed. Their smooth, curving horns are unmistakably =
those of a bull, whilst their ridged crests bear the heads of birds of =
prey"

Again, i know neither of these helms have anything to do with Viking age =
helms, i just couldn't pass up an opportunity to babble about helms;)
