[Regia-NA] FW: Sheilds

It's entirely up to you m8.

If you are using the shield for combat and worried about shields going
crunch I would suggest fabric front and back something really thin on the
back and something nice and heavy on the front.

Bear in mind that regia combat isn't as 'hard' as SCA combat, I have played
with guys in the UK who have been SCA trained (back in my LARP days) and
they hit very hard by my standards. But they rely on the fact that the gear
you wear will stop the shot, in regia we don't (because we don't have the
rigid protection to rely on (it's not authentic)).

The billet method of construction is proper blacksmithing, I would suggest
you get hold of a copy of _Early Anglo-Saxon Shields_(T Dickinson H Harke),
if you can't (it's oop try your local main library) then let me know I will
scan the bits in when I am at mums over chrimby.

Don't bother going there for a combat shield though, they would quite
probably be too pointy to be safe for use.

Which of the osprey books are you going by, I'm curious about this design
now.

And by the way I resemble any suggestion by the lord high vampire, that I
have _natural charm_ the cheek of the suggestion had the energy I would be
deeply offended, I will instead resort to a apathetically fuelled dim view.
