Saint Augustine in Fla. The old Spanish fort is the
oldest building on the East Coast. Having a senior
moment, I can't remember the name of the stuff it's
built of, but its porous, and rain seeps through. And
cannon balls just stuck in the walls. There used to be
a little restaurant near there called "Pappy's". It
had oilcloth tablecloths and plastic chairs, but they
served a platter of seafood piled on top of french
fries (crisps??) with a pitcher of ice tea, and you
would wobble when you left because it was so good you
had to eat it all. Ummm. Still miss it, and it's been
35 years.
Take an airboat ride in the Everglades. If they still
do that.
Savannah, GA is a pretty old town. And there is Stone
Mtn. in Georgia, also. Confederate officers carved
right out of the cliff.
Do the Museum of the American Indian in Washington. It
is worth the time. It's not as big as some of the
others, so you can see it in a few hours if that's all
the time you have. It just opened last summer, and
they've done a really good job on it.
