Look out for this series, it features Regia very strongly.

I thought that was pretty good, myself. Lots of recognisable Regia
faces, a proper credit of our own instead of the usual "with thanks to ..."
and a decent spread of time to tackle a very full period of English history.
I thought the dramatic reconstructions were well used. It makes a pleasant
change to see decent pictures of recognisable faces instead of the usual
blurred pastiche of images most directors settle for.

As to content, I was pleased to hear such an authoritative speaker clearly
utilising DNA, place name and linguistic evidence of a Anglo-Saxon
immigration and conquest (he used the word!) of an England abandoned by the
Legions. It is a rather non-PC attitude these days and I was glad to see him
forward it. Later, there was a good grasp of the socio-political structure
of the English State under first Alfred and then his kin. I thought the role
played by Alfred was well drawn and portrayed.

David Starkey's concise and authoritative speaking style was appropriate for
the subject - but I do wish he had kept his greasy fingers off thousand year
old parchment! Why are TV presenters so against wearing gloves when handling
ancient books? If it were a sword, a rock or a bone, he'd be required so to
do ... Sorry, one of my pet hates.

Catch it when you can!
