Not so, and if you're relying on this to keep you alive I wouldn't recommend you go into a real battle.

    In combat no blow from a weapon like a sword is recieved at a 90 degree angle to the face.All blow from a frontal opponant come in at a 45 degree {or there abouts} angle.The nasal bar catches these 

          Right, and of course in a huge melee or real battle ever opponent is directly in front of you...
