Thanks for that info, Ian - I was aware that there were one or two found in 
York from our period, one (IIRC) in silver.

I have also been looking (in my ususal desultory fashion) for buckles in the 
Hiberno-Norse area.  I have found a few, but less than I would have 
expected.  Interesting.....
