There's a product designed for museum objects called Renaisance Wax
(developed by the British Museum).  You can use it on metal, leather just
about anything really.  Trains been using it in the Science Museum for
years!  He put it on Bastard (old sword that used to be authentic but now
isnt) it's propped in the corner of our sitting room and our flat is
definately damp - no rust in 7 years!  It's available from a UK company
called Lakeland Limited, they mainly do kitchen stuff but they are the only
outlet we are aware of.  I haven't got time to look up the url cos I've got
to leave for work now but thay are definately on the internet.  Stuffs not
cheap but it's versatile and all of the major London Museums use it.
