>what do some of you experienced metal weapons fighters do to keep your
blades rust free?

I have a scabbard with a sheepskin lining. The natural lanolin (- Ok, I have
added some lanolin once in 10 years when it started to get a bit dry) keeps
the blade rust free very well.

>when rust does start to form what then?

Fine wire wool, wipe off thoroughly, slide sword into sheepskin lined
scabbard, squeeze scabbard whilst vigerously pumping sword in and out* (see
note below) to get lanolin onto the blade to prevent further rust.

* Be careful who sees you do this - ribald jokes may be forthcoming - I mean
may arise - no - erm.....look this is totally innocent OK? My relationship
with my sword is entirely platonic....

See what I mean?

The lanolin does tend to make the blade a bit sticky.

Oh dear....I think when the Normans said Brandisez vos Colpes they knew
_exactly_ what they meant.
