Ah, paraffin/kerosene.... A few years back, I wanted a leather water bottl=
e. Shopping at several of the reenactor's markets I was really sent for a =
loop at the cost...70GBP/$100. I thought that was a bit outrageous. So I =
decided to do one myself. I had waxed leather before, and had some leftove=
r wax which was canning wax (paraffin) here in the US. My first couple of =
attempts weren't too hot, but I finally got it down, and made a couple. To=
ok it to the local group meeting to show it off and everyone congratulated =
me on the results. But the funniest thing would happen when someone would =
ask, "what did you use to wax it with?". Of course I said "paraffin". And=
the other party would get quiet and kinda look at me funny. I didn't real=
ly take much notice of this, when Mary Atkinsson asked me and I told her. =
Her response was, "Paraffin?! Don't you know that is poisonous?" Common pe=
ople separated by a common language. :o)
