Subject:	RE: [Regia-NA] futhark numbers

Hello,
In my years of studying runes I have not
seen a specific writing system specifically
used within the futhark system. I cannot think
of a specific example, but I do recall at least
one runic memorial stone telling of a group of
warriors leaving Sweden to go fight for the
Byzantine's where the numberf of warriors was
spelled out.
Most of what I've seen are hash marks for
counting out items.

However, there is evidence of nemerical values
using the runes, but this was more used with a
"secret" code as apposed to counting items. This
would be the use of tree runes, which were used
throughout the viking age. Each runes was replaced
with a tree like mark, which had small lines
branching out on the left and right of a single
verticle line. The runes were first divided into
3 groups of eight, called aetts. One side of the
tree would have a number of dashes, 1-3, which
would signify what aett the rune came from. The
other side of the tree would have a number of
dashes, 1-8, to signify which number order inside
of that aett the runes position is.

When I'm writting out runes I usually represent
numbers with the rune that would hold that order
within the futhark. fehu=1 uruz=2, odal=24
(I primarily use the Common Germanic Futhark).
When writing out big numbers I will usually replace
each digit with a rune 2004 would be UNNA.
