my mantle is made from fine wool and lined in even finer wool.
Not sheep skin. I would suggest that that's your problem.
when Gail did a talk for us she was of the opinion that they were more like
cardigans..extra warmth for inside on cold days than cloaks made to protect
you from the worst of the elements.
when I'm cooking and don't want it dangling I belt it into the waist.
