Subject: [Regia-NA] New! Tablet-Weaving book by Nancy Spies

Thought this might be of interest to tablet-weavers and other needle
artists.

Nancy Spies has published 2 other books that are great resources for
re-enactors:
Here Be Wyverns (100's of patterns Graphed from Medieval Sources) and
Ecclesiastical Pomp & Aristocratic Circumstance--A Thousand Years of
Brocaded Tabletwoven Bands.

The details were posted on the SCA Card-Weaving list May 18th & 19th (the
two posts were edited into one):

A new book for tablet weavers -- and anyone else who can work from a graph
-- will appear this summer, 2003.

"Anna Neuper's Modelbuch: Early Sixteenth-Century Patterns for Weaving
Brocaded Bands" by Nancy Spies with Ute Bargmann. Published by Arelate
Studio.

A small leather-covered book of handwritten patterns for gold brocaded
tabletwoven bands resides in the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbuettel,
Germany. Written in 1517 by Anna Neuper, a seventy-year-old nun in the St.
Clare Convent in Nurnberg, it contains forty-five different patterns with
variations and is among the earliest pattern books for any textile
technique.
These patterns have been transcribed into modern charts & are presented with

background information by Nancy Spies with Ute Bargmann. This book is a
must
for every tablet weaver and anyone who can work from graphed designs.

The book is $12 + $3 s&h ... but shipping is FREE if you order before 1
August for ALL SURFACE MAILING (MEDIA MAIL IN THE USA). If sent air mail to
anywhere outside the US and Canada, it will cost $7 in addition to the cost
of the book.

No credit cards, sorry, but you can pay with cash dollars, dollar checks,
money orders, or international postal/money orders.

They will hold all checks until the books are actually in the mail. Final
editing of the book is now taking place, so the book is expected to arrive
in the next couple of months.
