[Jack Garrett]

I've always liked the earlier name for Placerville (which itself isn't bad), a small Gold Rush era town in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California.  Its original name was Hangtown.  It doesn't get more "colorful" than that.
   
  Then there's the town that was willing to change its name to that of a game show - for money.  That's Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.
