[Regia-NA] OT - Eastern States tour

Hello all.

I'm hoping to pick a few brains here if I may. Hazel and I are planning a
driving holiday in the Eastern States from 19th October to 12th November.
In general terms, we plan to fly into JFK, spend a day or two in Manhattan,
collect a hire car & drive to Boston & the Cape. Then westwards across
Vermont, crossing Lake Champlain into upstate New York and, via the
Catskills, south west to pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway & part of the
Appalachians.

Then we plan to curve south and east towards Florida, taking in Cape
Canaveral before we drop the car off in Orlando & fly home.

I've driven in the 'States before & have no problem with long distance
driving - we did 4.5k miles in three weeks on the West Coast a couple of
years ago.

Aside from the Smithsonian, are there any "must see" things/places we should
be taking in that are generally on the way? - but principally, are there any
snags or "watch out fors" that a visitor might not expect? Strangely enough,
I am not especially interested in looking at museums etc - I'm on holiday!
;o))

I'd appreciate any help offered and would be glad for off list replies
rather than clutter up this forum.

Thanks!

regards,

Kim Siddorn.
