Hmm, seems the backwoodsman I used to hunt and fish with who taught me about a few plants, mis-named the Dutchman's Britches.  I've looked at some images on web of Dutchman's Britches, and they are definitely _not_ the stinging plant he taught me...  The plant I know appears to be plain ol' stinging nettle, Urtica dioica.  Sorry for the confusion.
