Cheekplates, mail face coverings, neck extensions, and full visors were all
found in helmets following the end of the Western Roman empire. The Coppergate
Helmet incorporated a nasal, cheekplates, and mail neck covering. The Sutton
Hoo Helmet was a variation of the Sassano-Roman cavalry helmet. The Benty
Grange Helmet had a nasal and extension to cover the neck. The Vendel Helms had
both a nasal-occularium and mail to cover the head, neck, and shoulders.
However, the simple two piece Late Roman Helmets and the Spangenhelms without
nasal, cheekpieces, or neck protection lasted longer than most other styles.
