[Regia-NA] The Nasal: What's it for?

Cheekplates, mail face coverings, neck extensions, and full visors were all 
found in helmets following the end of the Western Roman empire.  The Coppergate 
Helmet incorporated a nasal, cheekplates, and mail neck covering.  The Sutton 
Hoo Helmet was a variation of the Sassano-Roman cavalry helmet.  The Benty 
Grange Helmet had a nasal and extension to cover the neck.  The Vendel Helms had 
both a nasal-occularium and mail to cover the head, neck, and shoulders.  
However, the simple two piece Late Roman Helmets and the Spangenhelms without 
nasal, cheekpieces, or neck protection lasted longer than most other styles.
