[Regia-NA] The Nasal: What's it for?

Not being a combatant (apart from the occasional arrow) I understood the  
cone shape of the helmet not only to block direct blows, but also to deflect  
them outwards and down.  Nose however tends to stick out beyond the cone of  
protection and therefore requires its own private ski-slope for unfriendly sharp  
metal things.  It never was about straight on stabbing type hits.  Go  on - 
tell me I'm just a silly civilian.....  :)
