In Atlantia they used to play cambok, a field game with
curved clubs and a ball, where they could actually
catch the heavies out of armor. This was great fun for
everyone else. They kind of made up the rules though.

But it's been a while since they have played it that
I know of. I can document a similar game to a French
engraved ewer of about the 13th/14th century in -I think
Lightbown's book on French Medieval Goldsmiths.-
There is a clear engraving of two frenchies in coifs
with clubs and a ball on it [with other medieval scenes
on other sides].

Knowing them Aenglisch, this should be right up their alleys.

I was wondering if anyone could forward rules and directions on how
to play Cambok? Thank you so much! In Service, - Alison MacLeod

There are just 3 rules, put the ball thru a goal (it doesn't matter
which but if you put it thru your own the other team gets the point),
you can't hold or throw the ball except to inbound it, NO HIGH STICKING!
Thats it. Everything else is game, type and size of goal, type and
size of ball, type and size of stick, size of field, etc, nothing else
matters but the fun! Kane used to change sides everytime someone asked
him what side he was on! (: - Janos

***HUMOR ALERT*** (which is why I chose to respond publically)
Cambok resembles to me a cross between Field Hockey and Brockian
Ultra Cricket. For those of you who aren't familiar with the latter,
here are the relevant rules, with apologies to the late Douglas Adams.
-- Put your team and the opposing team in a large field and build a
high wall around them.
Unlike B.U.C., this rules applies to Cambok for audience safety.
"High" is a flexible term which might be measured in millimeters,
depending on who's making the decisions.
-- Throw lots of assorted items of sporting equipment over the
walls for the players.
-- The players should now lay about themselves for all they are
worth with whatever they find to hand. Whenever a player scores a "hit"
on another player, he should immediately run away as fast as he can and
apologize from a safe distance. Apologies should be concise, sincere
and, for maximum clarity and points, delivered through a megaphone. For
Cambok, add that "hits" on other players must not be intentional...
-- The winning team shall be the first team that wins. Grins, - Evan
