Leather bikinis are Roman... I think they were worn by gymnasts during the
games - there is a bikini/thong set in the museum of london - I think the
example was pale/white leather. There are also several examples of them
being worn on mosaics/roman paintings.

North of England.  I've not heard of them before.  Can you be more specific?
