Can'd document hemp to N. Europe yet, or our time
frame, but it was being woven in Italy a little later
on. I'll have to check my references again--I think
it's Mazzaoui, _The Italian Cotton Industry in the
Later Middle Ages, 1110-1600_. iirc, it was used for
sailcloth, among other things.
