Found this in Scottish Snippets that may be of interest to some:

"Recreation of 6th Century Voyage
Later this year, an international crew of thirteen, from Scotland, N.
Ireland and the United States, will attempt to recreate the 563 A.D. voyage
from Ireland to Scotland of St. Columba and his twelve followers. They
will sail/row a replica of his curragh, the Colmcille, from Portrush to
Ballycastle, N. Ireland and then cross the treacherous Irish Sea to Argyle
in Scotland. From Argyle, they will make their way up the Scottish coast
to Iona where Columba established his monastery and which was to become the
center of Christian influence and burial place of Scottish kings for
centuries. They will then sail the curragh back to Ireland. The entire
journey should take two weeks, depending on wind, waves and weather. This
voyage is a pilgrimage in the original sense in that it will involve
danger, physical hardship and deprivation. The crew will dress as the
original voyagers did and eat the same foods. They will endure the elements
and the sea. They are currently constructing a website
http://www.stcolumbasvoyage.org where you can track the progress of the
voyage, learn more about St. Columba, read bios of the crew, see pictures
of the curragh and view a route map. The Discovery Channel and BBC are
tentatively scheduled to cover part of the trip."
