[Regia-NA] Questions about mantles

Greetings all,

I want to make a mantle for my Saxon women's kit, but have got some 
questions about them.

First off, are they one piece?  Basically a big oval with an offset 
whole for the head.  Or are they made in two pieces, sewn down the 
middle,  to conform with the narrow widths of cloth that were normally
used?

Second, about finishing garments.  If you have a wool cloak or mantle 
that is very heavily fulled and won't fray, are you required to hem it, 
or could it be left without finishing, or finished with a whip or 
blanket stitch without turning it over?
