   Avete!
    Dr. Mike Bishop, author, archeologist, and advisor to the Carlisle
project, reported over the weekend (on the Roman Army Talk board) that this
rumor was completely unfounded--he had seen the pieces in question
personally the day before!  Not sure how the press came up with this story. 
Rest easy, the stuff is all being picked free from the blocks of mud and
crud, photographed every step of the way.  He's hoping some progress
pictures can be put online.  Pass this along!
