Vara and Hazel,
Thanks so much for your prompt and very kind offers of assistance.
(Won't you be surprised when we meet in person and it turns out I suffer not
only from Turret's Syndrome but world class flatulence as well!) I don't
have an arrival date and/or location yet, as I am still researching which
event would deliver the most bang for the buck. So far, the sparse info I
have is from the Regia homepage calendar of events. The two events in August
seem likely to provide the broadest experience, but I'm just guessing. The
first one is in Kirkcudbright, Scotland, Aug 6-13, and the second is just
described as "August Bank Holiday - Exciting Major Event planned in the NW
of Britain." I'm embarrassed to admit, I don't even know the dates for your
August Bank Holiday. Is there somewhere on line to get more detailed info
about these Regia happenings?
Or you could just let me know which event would include regular daily
life, feast/festival days, monastery life, court life, a major battle or
two, some good examples of every caste of Anglo, Norman, Viking, etc., a
wedding, coronation, funeral, etc., etc. Oh, I forgot the maritime stuff...
it'd be helpful if I could do some Channel crossings, preferably in foul
weather, using the various boats of the period. And did I mention my
equestrian interests.....?
OK, so it's the impossible dream. Still, I'd like to pack in as much as
possible. I can stay for a long week or so. Ideas?
Cheers,
Karen Dickinson
