Hi Ali and all,
Sorry not to answer. I have been away, and only just read your e-mail.
I don't think that it is neccessary to abandon your method of tablet =
weaving...I call it threaded in patterns...I'm sure it has a proper =
name!

The problem with our bands is the patterns more than the fabric of the =
weave, and weaving in a threaded in way makes it harder to 'do' the more =
authentic patterns.

The method of making patterns by turning the tablets individually is, as =
I'm sure you know, not all that complicated. If I can do it, anyone can! =
Gelfling came down to Lancaster for an afternoon about 8 years ago, and =
gave a few of us lessons. In my opinion, that is by far the best way to =
learn...it's worth a hundred books!

Even the 3/1 twill isn't all that complicated if you see someone doing =
it. That said, I'm not sure that I could incorporate a turned pattern =
with it, however, you can brocade with it.

As for the bi or multicoloured bands, Liz da Born sent a private reply =
to me which I'm sure she won't mind my quoting.
'There is an entire sub-set commonly referred to as Snartemo which =
traditionally uses four colours. Using floating warps the colours are =
manipulated to create the pattern'

Sooo, Ali, after all that, please don't give up, nor yet go mad, but =
have a good Christmas!
Hazel
